Project Overview
Creating practical, safe storage solutions is an important part of supporting schools during exam periods. This bespoke installation at Ryedale School demonstrates how tailored joinery can meet a very specific need, while fitting seamlessly into a busy school environment.
The Challenge
Ryedale School required a secure and organised bag storage solution for students during exam periods, where regulations require personal belongings to be stored away from exam rooms.
The key requirement was to create a dedicated bag store that could accommodate a high volume of student belongings, while ensuring durability, weather protection and, crucially, safety for regular use by pupils.
As with any live school environment, the work also needed to be carefully planned to avoid disruption to teaching and daily operations, with installation carried out outside of normal school hours.
The Solution
We designed and constructed a fully bespoke external bag store, tailored to the school’s specific requirements and available space.
The structure was built using robust materials to ensure long-term durability, with a Hertalan rubber roofing system installed to provide reliable, low-maintenance weather protection. Integrated guttering was also included to manage rainwater effectively and maintain the condition of the surrounding area.
The unit was securely fixed back to the existing wall structure, ensuring stability and strength during everyday use. Particular attention was given to safety, with all edges carefully sanded and finished to create a smooth, child-friendly surface suitable for a busy school setting.
By building the unit to exact specifications, we were able to deliver a solution that maximises storage capacity while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive appearance within the school grounds.
The Results
The completed bag store provides Ryedale School with a practical, purpose-built solution that supports the smooth running of exam periods.
Students now have a clearly designated space to store their belongings, helping staff maintain exam compliance while keeping circulation areas clear and organised.
The durable construction and weatherproof design ensure the unit will stand up to daily use throughout the school year, while the attention to safety details gives staff confidence in its suitability for student use.
