Project Overview
This project involved the supply and installation of a specialist high-security fire exit door for the boiler house of a longstanding customer, the Proudfoot supermarket chain. The existing door was no longer suitable for the operational and safety requirements of the building, with the replacement needing to provide a combination of fire escape access, security and permanent ventilation for the boiler system.
The Challenge
Boiler houses require adequate airflow and ventilation to ensure heating equipment can operate safely and efficiently. At the same time, doors serving these areas must also meet strict safety and security requirements. The existing door was not suitable for the demands of the site and needed replacing with a more secure solution that would still allow the required ventilation. The installation also had to be completed quickly and efficiently to avoid disruption to staff, customers and day-to-day trading.
The Solution
We supplied and fitted a specialist metal fire exit door designed specifically for boiler house applications. The new door incorporated integrated ventilation panels to maintain the airflow requirements needed for the boiler equipment, while also delivering a robust and secure external access point for the premises.
The installation was carried out in line with current fire safety and building requirements relating to means of escape and ventilation within plant and boiler rooms. When selecting the door, we paid particular attention to ensuring it provided both durability and practical day-to-day usability within a commercial setting.
Works were carefully coordinated with the customer to minimise disruption to the supermarket, with the existing door removed and the new unit fully installed within a single working day.
The Results
The completed installation has provided the customer with a secure, durable and compliant fire exit solution that is suited to the operational demands of the site.
The new metal door improves site security while maintaining the ventilation required for the safe operation of the boiler system. By completing the works efficiently and with minimal disruption, the project ensured the supermarket could continue trading as normal throughout the installation process.
