Project Overview

Location: Forum Subsea Technology
Sector: Engineering
Project Duration: One day

Fire doors play a critical role in protecting people and property, but only when they meet current standards. This recent installation at Forum Subsea Technology shows how proactive upgrades can improve safety without disrupting day-to-day operations.

The Challenge

At Forum Subsea Technology’s site in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, a fire door serving the staff canteen had been identified for replacement as part of ongoing fire safety checks.

While still in use, the existing door was no longer compliant with current fire safety standards. As a key access point within a staff area, it was important that any upgrade improved fire protection while maintaining ease of use for day-to-day operations.

The project formed part of a wider, proactive approach to fire door safety, ensuring that all critical elements met the required standards for performance and compliance.

The Solution

Following inspection, we specified and installed a new metal fire door designed to meet current regulations and provide reliable fire resistance.

Our team carefully removed the existing door and prepared the opening, ensuring the surrounding wall structure and door lining were suitable for the new installation. The new door set was then fitted, with particular attention given to door gaps, alignment and overall installation quality to ensure it met recommended tolerances.

All ironmongery, including hinges, closer and handle, was installed and checked to ensure smooth operation and correct functionality in the event of a fire.

As with all recent fire door projects, a detailed installation report was provided. This included photographic evidence and confirmation of key elements such as door gaps, fixings and overall compliance, giving the client a clear record for ongoing fire safety management.

We were also able to provide same-day certification, as our team are fully trained in this aspect of installation, giving Fourm Subsea Technology evidence of fire safety compliance immediately.

The Results

The new fire-rated door provides a significant improvement in both safety and reliability, bringing the canteen access point fully in line with current fire door standards.

The upgraded installation ensures that, in the event of a fire, the door will perform as intended, helping to contain fire and smoke, protect escape routes and support overall building safety.

Just as importantly, the door remains practical for everyday use, with smooth operation and a clean, modern finish that enhances the surrounding area.

By identifying the issue early and taking action, Forum Subsea Technology has reinforced its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety across its facilities. Combined with a documented installation report, the site now benefits from both improved protection and clear compliance records for the future.
